Blue Box
pine, birch, linseed oil paint, walnut oil
January 2026

This locking box is a replica of a box I saw at the Västernorrlands Museum in January, 2026. It is object #M590 in their collection.

The locking mechanism of the box fascinated me, and when I returned home from our Sweden trip I made this box right away out of some nice pieces of pine I had ready to work.

As you can see, the original designs were painted, but I replicated the patterns with chip carvings instead of paint.

I've been told these sorts of boxes were used for shaving kits, and larger ones were often used for lunchboxes.
