Lecture Notes on Wood
kolrosed birch, bent wire
April 2026
During the North House Folk School Instructor Retreat, we were honored to host the esteemed Dr. Anne Kirketerp as our keynote speaker. She is terrifically brilliant and is spearheading the field of Craft Psychology.

We were encouraged to craft while we listened to Dr. Kirketerp speak, and so I brought my kolrosing along. I have taken notes on wood before, and I find it to be a particularly vivid memory aide. This fan-shaped arrangement of sticks was inspired by stories of Irish bards, who would write their poems and songs on long rods of wood, which would fold into a walking stick when not in use.
