Worm Rake
birch, buckthorn, milk paint, leather cord

I love worms. I've kept a composting worm bin for over five years now. I carved this small worm rake to help me sift through the finished compost that my worms generously generate.

Worm bins have several trays of rotting food, one on top of the other. Once the top tray is full, the trays need to be cycled, and the oldest tray of compost needs to be emptied. But here's the trouble: there are worms in the finished compost. So what do you do? Well, you agitate the worms with a rake, you leave the lid open so they flee from the sunlight, and you do NOT add any more food to the bin until all the worms are gone and the compost is removed. Therefore, you need a worm rake that is also a STOP sign to inform your roommates that nothing should be added to the bin.
